TennCare Suboxone Treatment Comes to Recovery Care for All of Tennessee

After becoming a BeSmart-certified clinic, as well as finalizing the credentialing process with BlueCare, AmeriGroup, United Healthcare and Blue Cross Blue Shield, Recovery Care has opened its doors (video cameras?) to providing telemedicine to insured patients!

What This Means
Suboxone telemedicine is not new to Tennessee. However, Suboxone telemedicine accepting insurance, especially TennCare is brand-new to Tennessee and brand-new to Recovery Care, too. The good news is, we’re already up and running, and we’re just getting started! Our mission is to provide exemplary addiction treatment to anyone in the State of Tennessee as quickly as possible.

How TennCare Suboxone Telemedicine Works
Many people ask how the program works, and we’d love to clear it up for those who want to know.

TennCare Suboxone Telemedicine Visit Requirements

Telemedicine patients follow the same rules as clinic patients when it comes to doctor and therapist visits:

  • 1 “Induction” Visit,
  • 4 “Stabilization” Visits (weekly),
  • 4 “Maintenance 2” Visits (biweekly),
  • And then, a patient be seen on a monthly basis (aka: “Maintenance 4”)

Do I see a Therapist as Well as a Doctor at Every Visit?
You sure do. A good rule of thumb is this:
Anytime you see the doctor, you will also see a therapist and perform a video drug screen, but not always on the same day. We try our best to schedule all visits when it’s most convenient for the patient.

Video Drug Screens
Video drug screens are performed exactly like clinic drug screens, only video is used. A technician makes a video call to the patient, the patient performs a series of steps to ensure identity and fluids match. Fluids (either urine or oral fluids, or both), are then mailed directly to a certified lab for analysis. Video drug screens are performed in tandem with doctor and therapy visits.

Beware of Fake Telemedicine Suboxone Providers in Tennessee
Not every Suboxone clinic that opens up and puts a sign above their door is allowed to provide telemedicine Suboxone programs in the State of Tennessee, let alone a program that accepts TennCare and commercial insurance. Recovery Care is a certified BeSmart clinic of Tennessee which not only gives it additional opportunities for providing addiction treatment to Tennesseans, it also comes with additional responsibilities.

Telemedicine in Tennessee requires many a thing to be in-place before a single Suboxone patient can be seen using video. Yet, there are companies outside of Tennessee offering this service, perhaps illegally to Tennessee residents. We won’t give names, but they’re not hard to find using a quick Google search.

Most all of these imposters charge a fee for their services even for people with insurance which is a red flag. Why? Because it’s illegal to charge a TennCare card-carrying patient for their visit.

We have personally spoke with people who have paid their hard-earned money, only to never receive a prescription for Suboxone. The reason being, Tennessee pharmacies are smart, and typically won’t fill controlled substances when prescribed by an out of state doctor.
