Amerigroup Is Now Wellpoint in Tennessee: What TennCare Members Should Know

Amerigroup Community Care now operates under the Wellpoint name in Tennessee. Tennessee’s current TennCare information identifies Wellpoint as the managed care organization formerly known as Amerigroup. Tennessee’s current TennCare managed care organizations list Wellpoint as the plan formerly known as Amerigroup.

If you previously knew your TennCare plan as Amerigroup, you may now see Wellpoint on current plan materials, websites or member communications. Because benefits, eligibility and network information can change, members should verify current plan details through official TennCare or Wellpoint resources rather than relying on older rebrand announcements.

Eligible members can register for RCC treatment using TennCare, with current coverage information reviewed before care.

What the Amerigroup-to-Wellpoint Change Means in 2026

The most important point for Tennessee members is that “Amerigroup” and “Wellpoint” may refer to the same plan lineage at different points in time. Older records and search results may still use the Amerigroup name, while current Tennessee resources use Wellpoint.

For current questions about eligibility, member services, provider networks or benefits, use the current information provided by TennCare and your specific Medicaid health plan. 

According to the New TennCare Wellpoint Website:

“Amerigroup is becoming Wellpoint in select markets. Why? For decades, we’ve helped you live well across all life points. Now, our name reflects that. This evolution won’t impact your coverage. You’ll still benefit from our comprehensive approach to health care.”

January 1st is also the time of year when many health insurance plans expire and require renewal and/or what they refer to as “redetermination”. If you currently have a health insurance plan with AmeriGroup (now Wellpoint), Blue Care or United Healthcare, be sure to renew and/or redetermine your health insurance for next year.
