Group Recovery Meeting Locator

Group recovery is a necessity for long-term sobriety. Being addicted to opioids often breeds a sense of hopelessness and a feeling of isolation. Group recovery provides a sense of community by meeting regularly with like-minded people who work as a team to overcome their addictions and improve their lives.

Sponsorship can also be a critical element for long-term sobriety. Programs like AA, NA, and others strongly recommend all participants find a sponsor to act as their guide in recovery.

Eventually, after one year of sobriety is achieved, everyone is encouraged to begin sponsoring newcomers. Many claim that becoming a sponsor is the most rewarding aspect of their recovery. It is often while helping someone else that one finds themselves.

You're Never Alone in Group Recovery
One of the most common realizations in group recovery is learning that your problems are not unique and that they can be overcome, no matter how bad you think they are.

"My third day in group recovery was a speaker meeting. A speaker meeting is when someone tells their story to the group. I remember vividly the many things this person shared that mirrored my life. I sometimes felt he was telling my story instead of his own. That's when I realized my problems were not nearly as unique as I had thought, and by attending these meetings, I could begin overcoming the many things that drove me to use drugs. The man speaking was so calm and happy. I wanted what he had. I wanted to change my life and share my story someday, just like he had.
One year later, I stood before my home group and shared my story, just like that man had done. After the meeting, a small group of newcomers approached me and thanked me for giving them hope, just like that man speaking had done for me one year ago.
Group recovery completely changed my life. I learned who I had been and who I wanted to become. Group recovery provided a road map to making the changes I desperately needed to become a happy person. Over time, I became calm, happy, and able to live life on my terms."
